Skimming to plasterboard and other solid surfaces is a popular method of providing a smooth, seamless finish ready for decoration.  The plaster is normally applied to a 2 - 3mm thickness depending on the background you are working to.

Float and Set

Preferred by masonry lovers, either sand and cement renders or gypsum backing plaster are trowelled directly onto brick or block work.  Both are finished off with a tight coat of finishing plaster that can be decorated.

Dot and Dab

Dot and dab is a simple and quick way to directly bond plasterboard to solid walls.  Once set, the boards are ready for tape and jointing or skimming.

Skimming Over Artex Ceilings

This involves lightly scraping back any high spots of the textured pattern, then sealing the entire surface with a sealant agent.  Once dry, two coats of finishing plaster are applied and worked to a smooth finish ready for painting (please note that the plaster must be completely dry before decoration).

Patching and Repairs

Often small damaged areas can be repaired and patched into existing plaster to avoid replastering whole walls or ceilings.  A visit to your home is required to determine whether or not his can be done.

Replacement of Old or Damaged Ceilings

Removing old ceilings can be a messy job, however, with our site visit and guide to preparing your home the process does run smoothly.  Old ceilings are taken down and bagged ready for your disposal.  Joists are de-nailed and new gyproc plasterboard is screwed into place ready for plastering.

Installation of Plasterboard and Stud Wall Partitioning

Plasterboard is an inner layer of gypsum sandwiched between two outer layers of lining paper.  Including various additives in the gypsum layer and varying the weight and strength of the lining paper will give the finished board different properties - available among others as soundbloc, moisture resistant and fire proof board.

Internal walls can be made up of a timber frame with plasterboard attached on top.  It's quick to construct, lightweight and strong.  The semi-hollow nature of studwork construction also means that pipes and wires can be run within the wall where needed.  Stud wall partitioning can be used to divide up a large space and to box in pipes.

External Plastering (Rendering)

Applying render to a wall is a great way to protect it from the elements.  Cement renders can be applied to walls made from brick or stone.
